Twelfth grade students are required to have two doses of meningitis vaccine prior to starting their senior year. If the first dose of meningitis vaccine was administered after the sixteenth birthday, a second dose is NOT required.
7th GRADERS 2016-17
The Ohio Department of Health has also added an additional immunization for students entering the 7th grade. Currently 7th graders are required to get a Tdap shot (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis) to begin their 7th grade year. Now in addition, your child will need a meningitis vaccine. A second dose of Meningococcal vaccine will be needed before their 12th grade school year. This second dose of the meningitis vaccine can be given any time after age sixteen.
For your child to BEGIN their 7th grade school year, both a Tdap and a meningitis vaccine are required.
For your child to BEGIN their Senior year, a meningitis vaccine is required.
Documentation of receiving these vaccines is required by Ohio law to begin school and avoid any exclusions.
Please give any documentation of these vaccines to the school office (do not give to a coach) before the first day of school in 2016.
For additional information please contact your school nurse, your health care provider, or Morgan County Health Department at (740) 962-4572.
Thank you for your cooperation in this important health matter.
